Investing in the life of a child not only impacts his/her life but also the lives of his/her future children and grandchildren on down through the generations. In other words, the potential investment return for redirecting one child is tremendous. Below we have listed several local opportunities for you to consider involvement. If one of these areas especially interests you, we have knowledgeable staff who can provide you with frank and thorough answers to your questions and walk you through every step of each process as needed. Please contact us or any of the organizations listed below with questions you may have.

  • Gunnison Country Mentors
Their mission is “to promote the healthy growth of youth through our one-to-one mentorship program and supporting services.” The organization establishes mentoring relationships for children ages 6 to 17. Please see a list of their programs at www.gunnisonmentors.com.  Watch this video to learn more!   Gunnison Mentors Project 29:11
  • CASA volunteers
CASA stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children. The volunteer follows a specific foster child’s (or siblings’) case and advocates for the best interest of the child, attending court hearings, keeping the court informed of the child’s welfare, and “seeking cooperative solutions among [those involved] in the child’s life.” A CASA program has recently been established to serve Colorado’s seventh judicial district, which includes Gunnison. For more information, please see their website:  www.casaforchildren.org and casa7jd.org, or watch this video that we put together for you:  Gunnison CASA Project 29:11 .
  • Respite care providers
Respite care providers welcome into their homes foster children for anywhere from one night to two weeks to give their foster parents a break from the demands of their care. This is an excellent way to show love to these children and minister to foster parents without a long-term commitment. Here is a video we have put together about foster care, foster-to-adopt and respite care: Foster Care 2911 Gunnison. For more information, please see the website: www.gunnisoncounty.org/236/Foster-Care-Program
  • Foster care
At risk and traumatized children who enter the foster care system can remain there for anywhere from one night to several years. For most children entering the system, it may be the first time they have been exposed to a stable family life with normal, healthy relationships. Foster care also may be the only opportunity to introduce these children to the God who deeply cherishes them. Here is a video we have put together about foster care, foster-to-adopt and respite care: Foster Care 2911 Gunnison.  For more information, please see the website: www.gunnisoncounty.org/236/Foster-Care-Program.
  • Foster-to-adopt
Being a foster parent is a low-cost way for those who wish to minister to children through adoption. In situations where it is determined that foster children will not be able to return to their biological parents or close relatives, the caseworker will pursue an alternate permanency plan and seek to place them in a foster-to-adopt home. Here is a video we have put together about foster care, foster-to-adopt and respite care:  Foster Care 2911 Gunnison. For more information, please see the website: www.gunnisoncounty.org/236/Foster-Care-Program.

For those who feel called to adopt but do not believe God is guiding toward a foster-to-adopt placement, we offer information and guidance for both domestic and international adoptions.

  • Domestic adoption
For families who believe God is calling them to adopt an infant, domestic adoption may be the best option if financial means allow. Quite often birth mothers desire an “open” adoption, where they establish a relationship with the family and receive notes about their child’s progress and pictures through the years. Please contact us for additional information, connection with a local adoptive family, and recommendations on reputable adoption agencies.
  • International adoption
While the cost of adopting internationally is significant, it varies somewhat between countries. For those who have the financial means, however, this is a wonderful way to reach out with the love of Christ and bring these precious, impoverished children into a forever home. Please contact us for additional information, connection with a local adoptive family, and recommendations on reputable adoption agencies.
